Sex workers are exceptionally creative. But due to oppressive systems, our art rarely makes it to galleries, our writing to libraries, our movies to the cinemas. Meanwhile, creators from outside the community often advance their careers by using sex work - our culture, our stories, our lives - as a trope, driver of shock value, or a pretense of societal commentary.
To adress these issues, ESWA is launching a new initiative to support and amplify sex workers' presence in arts and culture: Sex Workers' Network of Artists, Creatives and Communicators (SNACC). SNACC starts as a mailing list, hosted and coordinated by ESWA, to network, share opportunities, and build partnerships. With time we aim to develop trainings, consultations, events and work opportunities for SNACC members.
Who can join?
Sex workers and allies who engage in creative and media work, including:
- Visual artists, illustrators, photographers, painters
- Filmmakers, videographers, directors, screenwriters
- Authors, journalists, poets, copywriters
- Performers, actors, dancers, choreographers
- Theatre directors, dramaturgists, stage designers
- Costume designers, fashion professionals
- Bloggers, YouTubers, content creators
- Musicians, sound designers, DJs, composers
- Web designers, creative technologists
- Media and communications professionals, curators, art directors
- Other creatives and media professionals
Hobby artists are welcome!
