Sex workers are recognized as a key population in the HIV field. Legal barriers, stigma, and violence contribute to their vulnerability - even more so for trans and gender diverse sex workers, who face overlapping discriminations. The result is a higher HIV risk, and not much reliable data: oppressive structures drive sex workers underground, away from medical facilities.
To bridge this gap, ESWA launched Sex Workers Inclusive Policies and Programmes in Europe - SWIPE. SWIPE helps sex workers build capacity, address stigma and discrimination, and strenghhtens the networks of stakeholders. The aim is to improve sex workers' access to health and HIV services, and promote evidence-based strategies to address their health needs.
The factsheets below are an outcome of this work, bringing together best practices and recommendations for better inclusion of trans and gender diverse sex workers in HIV services and programmes.
The project was founded by Viiv Healthcare.
